Never the bride by Paul Magrs

Never the Bride (Brenda and Effie Mystery #1)Never the Bride by Paul Magrs
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Knowing how to spot an Igor from years of reading Terry Pratchett, it wasn't hard to figure out just who Brenda was supposed to be, right from the start. This is an engaging little book, a bit light on substance but fun nonetheless. Any book that contains references to Alucard (say it backwards), War of the Worlds, and a psychotic Mrs Claus, and even throws in a little Cthulu, is a good way to spend some downtime. Paul Magrs manages to avoid most of the cliches even while creating cameos for some of the classic horror creations, and he does a fine job of keeping one entertained throughout.
