Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this one far more than The Hunger Games, likely because there was far more motivation for Katniss do carry on as she has been doing. We gain more insight into why she doesn't want to get married and have a family, which works powerfully throughout as influencing her reason for wanting to keep Peeta alive.

As Katniss explained more fully her reasoning and motivations, I was drawn closer to her. I felt a kinship with her in her declarations of tomboyishness, lack of interest in 'girlish' pursuits and her avoidance of people.

Suzanne Collins does well in creating an underlying sense of dread throughout the book, particularly in the scenes where one would expect Katniss to feel somewhat more secure. Simple, effective writing.
